JewelCheck describes the cut, shape and setting of a stone and points out visual cues that separate diamonds from look-alikes such as moissanite, cubic zirconia and white sapphire. It cannot distinguish natural from lab-grown diamonds, because they are visually identical; only laboratory equipment can do that.

It reads legible hallmarks such as 585 or 750, judges color and looks for plating wear, then estimates whether a piece is likely solid gold, gold-filled or plated and at what karat. That is a strong first indication, but an acid or XRF test by a jeweler is still the way to confirm purity.

It depends on the question and the photo. Broad calls, such as yellow gold versus a white metal or ruby versus garnet, are reliable from a clear image. Fine distinctions, such as 14K versus 18K without a hallmark or natural versus synthetic, cannot be settled by any photo. JewelCheck explains its reasoning and says when a professional is needed.

No. JewelCheck provides AI-powered identification insights from photos. It is not a substitute for a professional gemological certification or appraisal. For insurance, resale, tax or legal purposes, obtain a written appraisal from a qualified appraiser or a report from a gemological laboratory.

JewelCheck is free to download from the App Store. Premium features are available via subscription, offered weekly or annually and billed through your Apple ID. Current prices are shown in the App Store and may vary by region. You can cancel at any time in your Apple ID subscription settings.

JewelCheck is available for iPhone with iOS 17.6 or later, for Mac with Apple silicon, and for Apple Vision Pro. There is currently no Android version. Download it from the App Store using the buttons on this site.

Your saved collection, including photos and past results, is stored on your device and can be viewed offline. Running a new AI analysis requires an internet connection, because the image is processed by the AI service.

JewelCheck supports eight languages with localized AI analysis: English, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish and Turkish. The app follows your device language where it is supported.
